Snowflakes are made out of ice crystals, so when light passes through, it bends and bounces off each individual crystal. The entire spectrum of light is reflected, and we see white snow.
Another interesting fact about snow is that:
- Snowflakes always have six sides. The water molecules that snowflakes are made of can only fit together in a way that results in a six-sided ice crystal.
Ok, enough with physics. Let's make some snowflakes.
Materials:
magazine paper rolls
squeeze bottle of glue
paint (we used acrylic for magazine paper rolls and watercolour for snowflakes) and paintbrush
salt
construction paper (cut in half)
hot glue
Step 1)
Squeeze glue snowflake designs onto your construction paper
Step 2)
Sprinkle with salt until the glue is thoroughly covered.
Step 3)
Dip the paintbrush into liquid watercolour paint. Then, gently touch to the salt-covered glue lines.
Step 4)
While waiting for the snowflakes to dry, paint your magazine rolls. If you don't have any, follow these easy steps to make them.
Step 5)
Hot glue the rolls around the snowflake to make a frame.
