Welcome

Hi there!

Did you know that children ask around 40,000 questions between the ages of two and five? Or that the giant huntsman spider has a leg span of up to 12 inches (30 cm)? No? Then you are in the right place. Here, you can find some interesting facts about different topics my 6-year-old twins have learnt through projects, arts and crafts.  All of this work is based on whys - what theory and research tell us about different aspects of development. Fun, Facts and Crafts is a site dedicated to activities that encourage play as one of the essential elements of early development. It was made by a parent for parents who want to grow and learn more about how their children acquire languages, numeracy and reading skills and what they can do to foster this development. Also, some of the interesting facts listed here are not entertaining only to kids :)
On this site, you can also follow updates on my book. You know, nothing much - just the best book about parenting you are ever going to read. A combination of theory and ideas about how certain things should be done, and practical examples showing that parenting in practice is often far from theory. Make sure you get your copy, learn something new, and have fun reading :) Parenting: Easier Said Than Done?

Now that you know what this page is about, let's see who is behind it.

I am three-in-one Marija: a mum to two amazing twin boys, an educator in multilingual development and English as a foreign language, and a researcher. All these three personas continuously work together to help me learn something new about myself, kids and their development. I used to work as an English teacher and a textbook author before our two bundles of joy were born. Then we moved to Germany, and I got interested in multilingual development even more. In the meantime, with a lot of support from my wonderful husband, I got my PhD in didactics. Learning from books and experience, I realised that play is one of the main ways in which children learn and develop. So, I decided to share this knowledge with other parents through this site. I also love playing with my kids outside, discovering and learning about nature and its importance for their development.
